Communication

Communication

Based on your own experience, what strengths will you bring to organizational communications? In this Discussion, consider how you would advise organizations about how to improve both formal and informal communications.
To prepare for this Discussion:

Review this week’s readings on communication. Look at "Formal Communication in Organizations" in Behavior in Organizations, pp. 307–311, and at "Communicating in Organizations" in Business: A Changing World, on pp. 226–2 29.

Think about your experiences with communication in your organization(s). What stands out to you as being positive? Challenging?

Complete the Individual Exercise "Are You a Supportive Communicator?" on pp. 328–3 29 in Behavior in Organizations. Score yourself when you are complete.

Reflect on your answers and your score, thinking about yourself as a listener and about managers/leaders you might observe and coach as an OPD professional.

Read "The Home Depot’s Extreme Communication Makeover" case on p. 331 of Behavior in Organizations.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 4 a brief description of the specific principles of or concepts related to communication illustrated in the "The Home Depot’s Extreme Communication Makeover" case. Then, thinking as an OPD professional, share what advice you might give to the company to improve communication.
