Curfew Laws as a response to Youth Loitering and Crime Prevention
The subject should be related to curfew laws as a response to youth loitering and crime prevention. Are curfew laws a good response to the problem of youth loitering? Are there better alternatives i.e. mentor programs, after school activities, better parenting, etc.
The content of the Literature Review should include this:
A review of the history of the problem.
This will be a good way to begin your paper. Start by discussing the history of your problem.
For example, instead of domestic assault? the problem might be lack of treatment options for domestic assault victims.? If this were the case, the history of your problem would not be a history of domestic assault, but a history of anger management? counseling and other types of treatment options that have developed over time for domestic assault offenders. Then you would move into a discussion of how options like these are not readily available for most domestic assault victims.
A discussion of diversity issues/concerns related to the topic
This discussion will vary from topic to topic. Look for diversity issues in your empirical articles and other sources you found for this lit review. Ground your arguments (regarding diversity) in empirical evidence!
Using the above example again, perhaps it is easier for middle class women who have the resources to hire a psychologist to help them, but women who are of lower socioeconomic status have to rely on social services to provide this type of counseling. This is an issue related to diversity.
A discussion of the ethics associated with this topic.
Again, this will vary from topic to topic. Look for discussions of ethical issues in your empirical articles and other sources you found for this lit review. Ground your original arguments (regarding ethics) in empirical evidence!
Considering the example above again, the ethical issue that comes to mind is that some in the court system may want to order domestic assault victims to seek treatment. The ethical problem comes in if women do not follow this order (in other words, do not comply with a court order) which would generally mean some type of punishment for lack of compliance. Many would argue that this is re-victimizing someone who is already a victim, which would raise serious ethical concerns.
A discussion of any laws (federal, state, and/or local) associated with your topic
While this will also vary from topic to topic, there are likely some laws associated with each one. You might have to do a little bit of digging. These may be mentioned in your empirical articles, but if not, textbooks and websites may be good resources for you.
For the example above, the laws may have to do with what types of treatment are mandated for offenders, and the student would have to see whether any of these could apply to treatment for victims as well.
A brief discussion of theory, as found in your empirical articles
Look for applications of the theories you chose in your empirical articles. Its more an identification of the use of theories in the empirical articles. The theories actually can help you frame your literature review.
A discussion of methodologies used in your empirical articles
Pay attention to the methods and data analysis sections of the articles you choose. Spend a bit of time in your paper discussing how the authors evaluated whether or not their hypotheses were correct, what data they collected, whether they used quantitative or qualitative data analysis, etc.
At least ten empirical references cited in the text. These sources should be integrated with the rest of the paper, not just listed one by one.
Use as many additional relevant empirical studies from scholarly journals. Just make sure you have a minimum of 10. You must integrate them in your writing; you cannot just write about one article at a time. It is now up to you to pull the information you gathered from your sources together in a well-written and organized paper.
A discussion of programs/strategies/policies that have been used to respond to the problem AND if possible, a discussion of methodological evaluations associated with these programs and strategies.
Look for this type of information in your articles. You may also need to dig a little bit on the web.
A reference list properly cited in APA.
