Recognizing Themes and Motifs in Comics: A Comparative Analysis

Recognizing Themes and Motifs in Comics: A Comparative Analysis

Your assignment is to isolate and ruminate on a common thread that runs through any of books we’ve read this semester. Using at least two of the texts we’ve studied, you are to construct a coherent essay analyzing similarities in theme, motif, or any other of the conventions of literature you find valuable to your understanding of the novels. Present your case in a focused thesis statement and support it with evidence from the primary sources. Incorporate outside opinions into your text to further bolster your argument and help establish your credibility as a researcher. It would be a mistake to abandon McCloud’s theories of comics, just as it would be a mistake to neglect the artwork of either book. Support your analysis with outside sources. This paper represents your ability to incorporate the ideas of others into your argument. Recognize and think critically about the work of others, analyze its value, then use it to support your own thesis.
