The Degree of Servitisation and its Impact on SME Performance
Critical Analysis of Literature Reviews
Provide a ~1250-word description and critique of the literature reviews in three academic journal articles that relate to your research topic. The critique should identify the important elements that you believe are inherent in any good literature review, and then compare, contrast and evaluate the approach taken in each of the articles in dealing with these core elements. Draw on existing literature dealing with this issue but try to synthesis and integrate different ideas to some extent rather than simply adopting someone’s existing list of criteria. Ideally, the task results in your demonstrating an ability to add value to existing ideas rather than simply being a faithful reporter of others’ ideas.
You should approach this assignment as a two-step process:
1. Identify/describe/justify the criteria that you believe are essential for a good literature review.
2. Discuss, contrast and evaluate the approach taken by the articles on each criteria identified.
Please include a coverpage that contains your name, student ID, unit code and name, assessment item number, supervisors name, discipline area, degree, date. Please include page numbers on every page (except for cover page).
Format: 12 pt font Times New Roman, double-spaced, single-sided, cover page, Harvard referencing system.
Helpful Hints:
1. Limit yourself to four – five reasonably broad criteria that you believe are among the most important (e.g. literature review clearly leads to identification of a research gap/question/problem/hypothesis). There may be many more than five criteria, but you do not need to be exhaustive. Do well with four – five and let others contribute the rest.
2. Avoid selecting criteria that, while perhaps valid, are completely obvious in determining lit review excellence (e.g. spelling and grammar are correct).
3. Your critique should compare and contrast the articles on each dimension,¬ Indicate what was done, but also how it is alike or different from the other articles- as well as evaluate how well each criterion was handled.
4. Remember that a good critique is both positive and negative. Be sure to point out aspects that were done especially well and represent examples of good practice.
5. Be sure to explain and justify your selected criteria and evaluations.
About this assignment:
This assignment is basically a well-researched critique of the literature review of three academic journal articles related to the topic explained below. The criterion based on which the LR of these three academic journals are criticised should also be acquired from academic journals related to what shapes a sound LR/ the factors based on which a good LR is evaluated (Refer to the file ‘useful readings for assignment’ however, remember that we are not limited to these sources and suppose to go even beyond these recommended reading to develop the criteria.
Please carefully go through the attached files explaining clearly about assignment guidelines and marking criteria.
About selecting the three journal articles:
Please refer to ABCD file and target the A or A+ journals in order to select the three articles.
Since my PhD research topic is ‘’ The Degree of Servitisation and its Impact on SME Performance’’, it is required that all the three articles are relevant to this topic (you are free to pick any three as long as we can align the arguments, discussion and comparison more effective. It is also important that these articles are from recent studies.
There is not any particular template or structure to be followed, the more creative and judgmental the better it is. What I’d suggest is that, the three articles should be briefly presented (probably in a table), then the reason why these articles are chosen among all should be explained. Number of criterion then should be clearly identified and under each criterion the process of defining each criterion is to be analytically described. Thereafter each criterion should be applied and critically evaluated. At the conclusion final evaluation is to be drawn and articles could be ranked based on the elements of the chosen criterion (i.e. scoring the articles as basic, limited and complete fulfilment of the factors identified.
