Answering questions and including 4 essays

Section #1: The Identifications
The Identifications (IDs) come from the people, places and events discussed in lecture from the four (4) possible essay prompts discussed in Section #2: The Essay. On the exam you will be given six (6) random IDs and the student is required to write on no more or less than three (3). If you study the essay prompts well, then this section will not be overly difficult. The IDs can be written as a short answer or in an outline form. The format for the IDs does not matter as long as the following information is included:

1. Is the Renaissance the beginning of the Modern Era? Explain

Who (2 points): Who was involved or if it was a person give a very brief description of who they were. Just restating the person’s name if the ID is a person who will earn you zero (0) points.
What (2 points): What happened or what was the person (President, Leader of something, etc).
Where (1 point): The generic location of where it happened or where the person completed what they are historically important for.
When (1 point): What period in history did this take place? Examples: Cold War, World War II or Industrial Revolution
Historical Significance (4 points): Why is the ID important and how did it or they have a direct impact on history.

2. Why was this Reformation successful when previous attempts to reform the Church (ex. John Wycliffe & Jan Hus) failed? Explain.

Who (2 points): Who was involved or if it was a person give a very brief description of who they were. Just restating the person’s name if the ID is a person who will earn you zero (0) points.
What (2 points): What happened or what was the person (President, Leader of something, etc).

3. Describe the Age of Exploration, its impact on the desire for Sovereignty in Europe and how successful where the attempts at Sovereignty. Explain.

Who (2 points): Who was involved or if it was a person give a very brief description of who they were. Just restating the person’s name if the ID is a person who will earn you zero (0) points.
What (2 points): What happened or what was the person (President, Leader of something, etc).

4. How did the Scientific Revolution and Enlightenment attempt to solve the social problems of their time? Explain.

Who (2 points): Who was involved or if it was a person give a very brief description of who they were. Just restating the person’s name if the ID is a person who will earn you zero (0) points.
What (2 points): What happened or what was the person (President, Leader of something, etc).
Where (1 point): The generic location of where it happened or where the person completed what they are historically important for.
When (1 point): What period in history did this take place? Examples: Cold War, World War II or Industrial Revolution

Section #2: The Essay

To properly answer the question, students must use all historical examples given in the lecture to back up their discussion. It is recommended that students write until they have exhausted the topic while not adding filler or fluff to the essay:

Midterm Study Guide
The Midterm for this course is held online through Blackboard, if any students wish to take a
pencil and paper version of this exam they will need to see the professor no less than two (2)
weeks before the exam is set to start. Students with accommodations will need to meet with the
professor before or after class at least one (1) week before the exam to discuss the Midterm, this
is the student’s, not the professor’s, responsibility to initiate this discussion. The Midterm will
open Sunday 03/05 at 12:00PM/noon and will close promptly at 12:00PM/noon on 03/07. Any
exams submitted after the exam is closed will not be accepted; no exceptions. There will be class
held on 03/07 so please arrive on time and ready to learn. The Exam will be found above the
Syllabus in the Syllabus/Documents section.
Please note this exam is closed-note, which means students are prohibited from using any source
other than their memory to complete this exam. Students are strictly forbidden from using their
class-notes, textbook, internet or seeking help from another individual or group during the exam.
Anyone caught using outside sources will promptly be turned into Academic Integrity and
receive a “0” on the exam.
There are two sections to this exam, the first is an Identification section and the second is an
Essay Prompt. This guide will break down both of these sections and give you the tools you will
need to get an “A+” on this exam.

Make sure to include all five (5) sections of the ID, a missed section is missed points and each ID
in total is worth ten (10) points. The point breakdown is given in the list above.Section #2: The Essay
The essay is selected at random for each student from the four (4) questions listed below.
Whatever question a student is assigned is the question they must write on or they will receive no
credit. To properly answer the question, students must use all historical examples given in the
lecture to back up their discussion. It is recommended that students write until they have
exhausted the topic while not adding filler or fluff to the essay. Some students might be able to
do that in four (4) paragraphs while others may need ten (10) plus; there is no set length
requirement. The essay portion is worth seventy (70) points. A Grading Rubric is given below
the essay prompts.

B 60 Coherent, decently organized and uses historical facts correctly, but may be
missing one (1) to two (2) key facts.

Coherent, but only semi-organized. Student uses historical facts correctly but
has no more than one (1) incorrect historical fact and/or missing three (3)
key facts.
D 46
Difficult following student’s argument, using historical facts but has no
more than two (2) to three (3) incorrect historical facts and/or missing three
(3) key facts.
F 25
Cannot follow or student is lacking any sort of organization in their essay.
Historical facts are either not being used or have four (4) or more incorrect
historical facts and/or missing four (4) or more key facts.
