Composition

Do not write academic essays that are comprised solely with the first person pronoun, ” I.” Academic writing should be objective

which means you are making an observation and explaining it. The writing should not be subjective. Subjective is when the writer is

the focus of the essay. These essays should be about people, places or experiences that you are familiar with. Write about the

person, place or experience. Do not write solely about yourself.

Write a 500-750 word essay using comparison/contrast as a method of development.

Use MLA format. Courier New font, size 12.

IT IS A COMPARE/CONTRAST ESSAY!!!!!
Determine exactly what you are going to compare and/or contrast. Be sure that your items have sufficient relationship to be

compared/contrasted (you would not choose to compare/contrast a slug and a computer).

Decide whether you will use the point-by-point or block method of organization, and be consistent. Either method is acceptable.

Give some thought to the order of presentation of points being compared and contrasted. You might want to use order of importance,

size, etc.

This wiritng should be objective. Do not use “I think” or “I believe” in academic writing.

Have a purpose for writing. Do not simply list the differences between two things. That is not an essay. That is a list. Be sure to

add the significance of the differences. One option may offer more variety than the other or one topic may be more fun than the

other. Give a reason for citing the differences.
