Cosmetic Surgery

THIS IS AN ESSAY OF 800 WORDS BASED ON THE FOLLOWING TOPIC:
In what ways is cosmetic surgery a tool by which women embrace patriarchal ideals, and can body projects offer the possibility to subvert patriarchal ideals?
HERE ARE THE INSTRUCTIONS:
This assessment requires you to submit an 800 word summary (essay format), which is a written literature review of your chosen
topic (selected from the essay questions provided on pages 16-17 of this guide). The aim is for students to generate an in-depth and
comprehensive understanding and analysis of their topic.
While there may be some overlap in content, this assessment will be marked in terms of writing skills and following conventions (i.e.
use of Intro/Body/Conclusion; appropriate and scholarly referencing (Harvard); written expression; appropriate bibliography, etc…).
BASICALLY, I HAVE TO PRESENT SOMETHING IN CLASS BASED ON THIS ESSAY SO PLEASE BE AS PRECISE AS YOU CAN SO THAT I CAN PREPARE MY PRESENTATION ON THE ESSAY YOU PROVIDE.
THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO KEEP IN MIND WHILE WRITING THE ESSAY:
Writing a literature review…
A literature review is a review and discussion of material previously published on one of the topics chosen from the essay list
selection on pages 13-14. The field of interest you have selected may be broad, however you need to research reliable material
by reliable researchers and scholars in that field. The literature review should be a ‘survey’ the field of study, which sets out the
current state of scholarship in that field and highlight its strengths and weaknesses. This you will discuss in your review.
YOU ARE NOT TO PROVIDE JUST A SUMMARY OF THE MATERIALS AVAILABLE BUT A CRITIQUE OF AVAILABLE SOURCES AND POSSIBLE GAPS AND LIMITATION IN THE RESEARCH. This is a very valuable academic skill.
For this assessment:
You will need to undertake a review of literature relating to one of the essay questions outlined on page 16-17 of this guide. The information and material you gain during this exercise will assist you toward writing your final
essay.
You should ask yourself the following questions…
Q. What is each author arguing and what evidence or method does each author provide to support their arguments?
Q. What is each author doing to deal with arguments, and how do they differ?
Q. Can authors be grouped into areas of interest, and if so, how is this done?
Q. Is there something missing from the materials that need to be included?
Q. Is there another area you could look to for insight into the topic?
Q. Is there something in the materials currently available that has really made you re-think your position or opinion?
PLEASE TRY TO ANSWER ALL THESE QUESTIONS IN THE FORM OF ESSAY PARAGRAPHS. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU PROVIDE ENOUGH INFORMATION ABOUT EACH ARTICLE.
THE QUESTION I HAVE CHOSEN IS:
‘In what ways is cosmetic surgery a tool by which women embrace patriarchal ideals, and can body projects offer the possibility to subvert patriarchal ideals?’
