Discuss the differences between the first 2 chapters of the Wilkinson textbook and the statements made by Wilhoit & Ryken in the section titled “Motivating Students” in Chapter 3 of Effective Bible Teaching. What are the key distinctions between the authors’ perspectives? How does each perspective affect the way people teach and/or learn? Which viewpoint do you think is better? Explain with at least 3 fully developed paragraphs, and incorporate biblical examples and support.
Discuss the section titled “The Heart of the Method: Topic and Theme” in Chapter 6 of Effective Bible Teaching. What do the authors argue in this section? What are the strengths and weaknesses of the authors’ analogy? How does the authors’ analogy help you in the preparation and presentation of a Bible lesson? Explain with at least 3 fully developed paragraphs. You may also consult the “Summary of Principles” at the end of Chapter 6.
In Chapters 16–18 of The Teaching Ministry of the Church, the authors refer to “Psychological Foundations” and “Developmental Theorists” to aid in our understanding of how to teach people at different stages of life. Is it appropriate to base our methods of teaching the Bible on the developmental theories of secular psychologists and scientists? In at least 2 fully developed paragraphs, explain your answer with references to the textbook and relevant Scripture passages.
