How Inadequate Prenatal Care utilization might increase the risks of infant mortality and poor birth outcome. Prenatal care is the health care provided to women for detection, treatment and prevention of serious health problems throughout the duration of pregnancy. It is carried out by providing regular checkups of related health care team members which is in benefit of both mother as well as her child. In United States the concept of prenatal care was first introduced for prevention of preeclampsia. Later on the focus was shifted to low birth weight of new-born, still births, post partum depression and increased mortality rates of both mother and fetus.
