DIRECTIONS: Choose one of the following topics for a paper of 800 words. The paper should be typed, double-spaced, and follow the MLA conventions as stated and explained in OWL or The MLA Handbook. You must have a strong thesis statement in the first paragraph.
1. Write a paper arguing that mining by mountain top removal is good for Kentucky (three reasons!) or bad for Kentucky (three reasons!).
2. Write a paper arguing that raising the high school drop-out age to 18 is good for Kentucky (three reasons!) or bad for Kentucky (three reasons!).
3. Write a paper arguing that casino gambling is good for Kentucky (three reasons!) or bad for Kentucky (three reasons!).
4. Write a paper arguing that the retirement age for getting Social Security should be raised, or that it should not be raised. What ages should be eligible for SS?
