PROJECT DESCRIPTION

For this project the student will analyze the business and its competitive environment, then create a strategy and implementation plan for the organization. The project will be presented as a written document of 10 to 20 pages, double spaced, with APA formatting

PROJECT INSTRUCTIONS
The student will select either an organization they work for or have worked for, or review one of these suggested companies: Apple Inc. or Toyota Motor Corporation. The student will conduct a strategic analysis including (at a minimum):
• a SWOT Analysis,
• a Competitive Environment Analysis, and
• the current performance and status of the company.
From that analysis the student will create a strategic direction, including (at a minimum):
• a mission and vision,
• the strategic pathway to success for the company,
• the value chain for the company,
• the organizational structure that will enable success,
• an outline of how each functional area of the company will execute the strategy, and
• a set of four to six SMART Goals for a typical employee within the company that will align with the company’s strategy.
The project will be presented as a written document of 10 to 20 pages, double spaced, with APA formatting.

STATUS OF COMPANY
Complete an analysis of the current status of the company
The student very clearly analyzes and describes the current performance and status of the company as a starting point for the project

 

MISSION, VISION AND PLANNING PROCESS
Use the current status to develop a mission and vision and complete the long-term strategy using an integrated planning process

Student uses the current status from previous step and completes a compelling vision, mission, and strategy

ANALYSIS ENVIRONMENT
Conduct an analysis of the competitive environment for the company
Student does an exceptional SWOT analysis of the competitive environment of the company from the perspective of competitors, customers, and suppliers

 

STRATEGY
Analyze the current performance of the company and create a short-term strategy to improve performance which will lead to fulfilling the long-term strategy

Student effectively analyzes the current performance of the company and creates a detailed short-term strategy to improve that performance

VALUE CHAIN
Outline the value chain of the company
Student describes the company’s value chain, from earliest suppliers through the customer’s use of the product, yielding a new understanding of the business

 

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
Determine an organizational structure and define the role of each functional group that will enable the short-term and long-term strategies to be implemented
Student determines an organizational structure and functional group responsibilities that would serve the company well to implement a strategy in their competitive environment with the minimum amount of change necessary

SMART GOALS FOR EMPLOYEE
Write four to six SMART Goals for a typical employee within the company that will align with the company’s strategy

Student includes 4-6 SMART goals which astutely align with the company’s strategy
