Summarize

Look over page 15 (or 15 and 16) and find a key sentence that you could quote from that page. Insert the quote into your summary, where it makes sense. Be sure that your summary flows from paragraph to paragraph smoothly. Each paragraph should make a distinct point or provide essential parts of the summary, because the audience has certain expectations of your written summary, and “readers expect to learn a paragraph’s main point in a topic sentence early in the paragraph.”(1)
Write at least two paragraphs that feature a topical sentence early on. “Then as they move into the body of the paragraph, they expect to encounter specific details, facts, or examples” (2) that link back to the idea of your topical sentence.
Needless to say, you post the summary of page 15 on your blog. Now it is time to expand the summary. First, find at least two more books in the library that deal with the same topic or ideas of your summary. Then find at leat two more on-line resources. Study what you find and expand the summary, adding a research paragraph. It could start like this:
“While I only summarized the topic of (…) above, I expanded on the concept/ideas with some additional research. I found the following book (name of book 2) by (name of author2) that deals with (…) (3)
Furthermore, I found (book 3) by (author 3) that deals with the same problem/content… (4)”
Make a connection between all the sources you found and conclude your mini-research with a concluding paragraph. Then add an introduction above the first summary of page 15. In the summary, tell what you will be doing. “I will summarize…”
Now your post has four distinct elements:
an introduction
a body of text beginning with a summary of page 15, and expanded research of two books and two on-line sources
a conclusion
a bibliography of books used – the “works cited” page.
Works cited:

(2) ibid
(3) full bibliographical information on book two – as above in (1)
(4) full bibliographical information on book three – as above in (1)
