Supply Chain Sustainability

You have two options:
Option 1: Evaluation of disruptive technologies and supply chain sustainability within a chosen organisationOption 2: Evaluation of TBL sustainability practices within a chosen organisation

Option 1: Evaluation of disruptive technologies and supply chain sustainability within a chosen organisation
BackgroundYou have been asked to undertake an evaluation of a company’s supply chain in terms of the potential disruptive technologies and the impact on supply chain.  The definition of disruptive technology is taken in its broadest form to include factors that have major implications for the current supply chain operating model and necessitate major rethinking and design.
You are free to decide which company to assess.  Therefore this may be the organisation you work for or another one of your choice. However, it is recommended that you take some time and care in your selection process.   There should be enough publicly available data for you to complete a reasonable evaluation.
The purpose of the evaluation is to initially consider a range of potential disruptive technologies and critically appraise the probability of them maturing and the anticipated level of impact that they might have. To support the evaluation, YOU ARE REQUIRED TO MAKE REFERENCE TO THE SC FRAMEWORK BELOW.  Further, you are required to gather credible evidence of their technology readiness and applicability within your chosen organisations sector.  You are required to provide a range of recommendations to the organisation in light of your review.
ScopeThe scope of the work should include:
1) The company’s own activities (i.e. directly owned operations)
2) Activities across the wider supply chain (both upstream and downstream where appropriate)ApproachIt is recommended that you take the following methodology to your assignment:
1) Company selection: Choose either the company you work for or select an appropriate company to evaluate.2) Data collection: Collect and review publicly available information on your organisation.  Interviews with relevant personnel may also be considered. 3) Analysis and critique: Decide how you will evaluate the individual technologies and to avoid naïve or biased reports make reference to credible sources of information.  I also expect you to have a personal interpretation of the data you analyse and not simply regurgitation of secondary sources.  (60% of marks allocated for analysis and critique).  4) Report writing:  Write up an individual report based on what you have learned about your organisation.  5) Sources of dataIt is anticipated that you should have reviewed a range of publicly available material to obtain a balanced view.  In this instance, you will not be expected to review academic papers.  An indicative list of possible sources is provided below.

Option 2: Evaluation of TBL sustainability practices within a chosen organisation
BackgroundYou have been asked to undertake an evaluation of a company’s supply chain in terms of their approach to sustainability.  The definition of sustainability encompasses the concept of the ‘triple bottom line’ and therefore your report should consider the economic, social / ethical and environmental aspects.  You are free to decide which company to assess.  Therefore this may be the organisation you work for or another one of your choice. However, I would recommend that you take some time and care in your selection process.   There should be enough publicly available data for you to complete a reasonable evaluation.  The purpose of the evaluation is to identify how comprehensively, in your view, the company has ‘approached’ the concept of sustainability.  To support the evaluation you are required to identify areas of good practice whilst also indicating where the company could be doing more.  You are also expected to identify any policies that you would expect your company to have covered but are not mentioned in their literature.  For example, if they source materials from low cost economies but do not mention a supplier code of conduct.  ScopeThe scope of the work should include:
The company’s own activities (i.e. directly owned operations)
Activities across the wider supply chain (both upstream and downstream where appropriate)ApproachIt is recommended that you take the following methodology to your assignment:
1) Company selection: Choose either the company you work for or select an appropriate company to evaluate.2) Data collection: Collect and review publicly available information on your organisation.  Interviews with relevant personnel may also be considered. 3) Analysis and critique: Decide how you will evaluate your chosen company.  To avoid naïve or biased reports reference to recognised assessment approaches / protocols is recommended, for example the GRI.  Alternatively, you may wish to benchmark your organisation against its peer group for comparison.  Whichever criteria you chose it should support some detailed critical appraisal.  I also expect to read your personal interpretation of the data you analyse and not simply regurgitation of secondary sources.  So you may select a well known organisation, such as, Coca-cola, but you need to show some original thought.
