Fischer contends the British moved into New York harbor “as if nothing in the world could stop them”1 and goes on to point out that during the 18th century no one had been able to stop them. Based on Fischer’s writing (and other scholarly research), what did an enemy see in a British soldier that made them appear so strong? What was the importance of how their enemies perceived them?
