The academic literature in the field of leadership presents a rich, multi-disciplinary body of research that has theoretical bases in social psychology, political science, social science, business, management, and organizational behavior. An informed manager who spends a little time reading and reflecting on leadership has a much better chance of incorporating the best forms of leadership into their interactions with subordinates or other leaders, and also will be more likely to initiate leadership development opportunities for others.
An important component of leadership is delegation and empowerment. An individual’s leadership style will determine the extent to which they delegate to and empower individuals. With that said, managers in criminal justice agencies face unique and dynamic situations that may not be conducive to certain leadership styles.

For this assignment, you are to address delegation and empowerment and their relationship to management styles in criminal justice.

You are required to utilize a minimum of 2 articles found on ProQuest or EBSCOHost on the subject, and when selecting your articles and writing your paper, you should consider the following:
1.A participative leadership style is one that involves subordinates in the decision making process. Should leaders decide on a participative style based on the most efficient way to reach a decision or should leaders allow subordinates to participate in the decision making process for other reasons?
2.How does the Vroom and Jago (1988) model address situational variables and the role that they play in delegation?
3.What are the strengths and weaknesses of a participative leadership model that includes delegation and empowerment in criminal justice management?

You will find that the articles may not be specific to criminal justice, but as stated above, leadership theories are rooted in a variety of disciplines, yet they are inherent to the success of criminal justice managers.
