Write a research paper on CMS’s Bundled Payment for Care Improvement (BPCI) initiative and what has been learned since beginning in 2012. Several articles to help you begin your research are provided in the Research Paper module.
Key considerations for many healthcare organizations are whether to pursue bundled payments or expand involvement in this payment approach, and what steps and strategies are required to be financially successful in implementing bundled payments. The paper should examine the requirements of BPCI and outline benefits and concerns. Try to find a hospital or other group that has participated in the BPCI initiative and share their experience. Tie in all the elements you have learned in this course and include your new found knowledge.
The paper should be at least 5 pages in content length (this does not include the cover & resource pages) with the following attributes:
1. APA 6th ed. format
2. Times New Roman, 12 point font
3. Include Title page, Abstract, and Bibliography pages
4. Must have at least 3 references

CMS Bundled Payment for Care Initiative (Information from the CMS website)
Traditionally, Medicare makes separate payments to providers for each service they perform for beneficiaries during a single illness or course of treatment. This approach can result in fragmented care with minimal coordination across providers and health care settings. It also rewards the quantity of services offered by providers rather than the quality of care furnished. Research has shown that bundled payments can align incentives for providers – hospitals, post-acute care providers, physicians, and other practitioners – allowing them to work closely together across all specialties and settings.
The Bundled Payments for Care Improvement initiative was developed by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (Innovation Center). The Innovation Center was created by the Affordable Care Act to test innovative payment and service delivery models that have the potential to reduce Medicare, Medicaid, or Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) expenditures while preserving or enhancing the quality of care for beneficiaries.

Title Page
The title page should contain the title of the paper, the author’s name, and the institutional affiliation.
Brief summary of the paper (between 150 – 250 words), allowing readers to quickly review the main points and purpose of the paper.
A bibliography, also called references, is a list of written sources utilized to prepare the research paper. Every source mentioned in the paper should have an entry.
