For this paper, you will write a causal argument. In this paper, you will look at the causes of a societal problem in the Bay Area of California. For those of you who are writing from another location, it is acceptable to write about the causes to a local problem in the region where you are. The problem should be specific and local. Topics that cannot be considered are general causal topics that are frequently written about, such as causes of divorce, causes of obesity, causes of diabetes, causes of teen pregnancy, etc. Please clear your topic with me in advance, by sending an email.
Because I am asking you to look at a LOCAL problem, that means sources should also be local. For example, you should look at the archives of the San Francisco Chronicle and other local papers for sources. You might consider interviewing a local expert or somebody affected by the problem or somehow involved in trying to fix it.
