Opposing Viewpoints Essay Building Exercise

Step One: review the Opposing Viewpoints Essay Information Sheet AND the Opposing Viewpoints Essay Grading Rubric.

Step Two: visit the Opposing Viewpoints database and click ‘Browse Issues’. Review the Opposing Viewpoints Library Guide for assistance with the database (http://gmcga.libguides.com/opposingviewpoints).

Step Three: scroll through the available issues in the database. Choose an issue that interests you; the more interested you are, the easier the research will go.

Step Four: review the requirements of the essay.

Step Five: begin your research. Search for full-text scholarly articles in the Academic Journals, Primary Sources, and Statistics sections. DO NOT use articles published in the Viewpoints, Reference, News, Magazines, Audio, Images, Videos, and Websites sections. Also, DO NOT use book reviews, brief articles, cover stories, viewpoint essays, biographies, letters to the editor, or short essays! You should have a minimum of three scholarly articles cited in your final essay (MLA Format).

Step Six: list the issue that you plan on writing about AND list a minimum of three scholarly articles you plan on using in your essay. You will not submit any attachment, however, you will type directly into the Opposing Viewpoints Essay Building Exercise editor field in order to submit your assignment.
