Atonement Paper

The goal of this paper is for you to apply some of the concepts introduced in the lesson in a response to Atonement. In 800-1000 words, you should write a paper responding to one of the following prompts:

In terms of the story/plot distinction, what in your opinion is the “story” of the novel? Is it the sequence of events that is described in the body of the novel and that ends with Briony’s visit to Cecilia and Robbie, and her plans to retract her testimony? Or is it the sequence of events that Briony describes in her postscript that ends with Robbie dying in France and Cecilia dying in the bombing of London? What are the implications of making one choice or the other?

Are there any clues in Part I of the novel that what we are reading is not a novel with an omniscient, heterodiegeticnarrator? After reading the conclusion of the novel, how do those clues point to Briony as the author?
